Liberec Routes

School line 53 provides the transport of students of the Kateřinky Secondary School and the speech-therapy primary school in Elišky Krásnohorské street to and from the centre. However, the standard fare applies on the line, so other passengers can use it too. The route of the line follows line 18 but calls only at selected stops.

Line 53 was introduced in the 2002/2003 school year as an express alternative to line 18 services. Initially it had no en-route stops and thus served exclusively students of the Kateřinky Secondary School. Gradually further stops were added in the centre, and the U Trianglu stop, by which the line also began to serve as a school line for the speech-therapy primary and nursery school in Elišky Krásnohorské street. Partly thanks to this, the number of services was gradually expanded from one pair to several morning and afternoon ones.

Line 53 is a school line with just a few services on weekdays. The pleasant thing is that it is almost without stops. Less pleasant can be a bus packed to the ceiling with teenagers. The route runs the whole time along the route of line 18, so you cannot get it wrong. As with line 18, however, here too the Blanická - Kateřinky křižovatka section has to be driven with great care — a narrow forest section full of hairpins, which moreover is only ploughed in winter. It is good to be able to judge whether you are driving through at a time when a colleague with line 53 or 18 may be coming the other way. Such an encounter is also filmed in the following footage. It was filmed with a Mercedes Citaro #438 during a bleak December inversion. The forest fog gave me the feeling that I was driving into some dark, forbidden land full of black magic.
