In 1939, after several city districts were annexed and the population grew to 70,000, the need to introduce bus transport under the city's management arose again. Until then it had been operated for several years only by private operators. The growing number of lines in the city's operation called for clear marking, and so from the beginning of 1940 line numbering was introduced, continuing the series from the 4 tram lines. The number 7 was given precisely to the line from the town hall via Krásná Studánka and Mníšek to Chrastava. The changes after the end of the Second World War, however, led to further changes in operation. The city line to Chrastava thus ended, as did line 7. Since then no line has borne this designation.
