In 1939, after several city districts were annexed and the population grew to 70,000, the need to introduce bus transport under the city's management arose again. Until then it had been operated for several years only by private operators. The growing number of lines in the city's operation called for clear marking, and so from the beginning of 1940 line numbering was introduced, continuing the series from the 4 tram lines. The number 8 was given precisely to the line from the town hall via the railway station to the villages of Janův Důl, Františkov, Karlinky and Ostašov. From 1942 the line already terminated at the railway station, with passengers able to reach the centre free of charge by tram. The changes after the end of the Second World War, however, led to further changes in operation, including the start of marking bus lines with letters. The line to Ostašov received the designation A, which ended the era of line no. 8. No other line with this number has returned to service so far.
